Can eczema look like flea bites?

To treat flea bites, wash the area with soap and water. Apply calamine lotion or an anti-itch cream like over-the-counter hydrocortisone. Try not to scratch the flea bites, as this can cause them to become infected.

There are so many causes of dyshidrotic eczema it can be hard to find a specific trigger. Heat, stress, sweat, nickel, cosmetics, and soap are all common causes.

If you cannot narrow down the cause, you should contact a healthcare provider. A healthcare provider can review your health history and determine if testing is necessary. Having a correct diagnosis will help you get started on the right treatment and provide faster healing.

How To Treat Allergic Reaction To Bed Bug Bites

Flea allergy dermatitis is one of the most common skin diseases in animals. Many pet owners are extremely effective at removing fleas and flea dirt through grooming, making it difficult for the practitioner to prove the existence of a flea infestation. Therefore, dogs with lumbar dermatitis and all pruritic cats should be treated aggressively for possible flea allergy dermatitis. As of this writing, the only product that can kill adult fleas rapidly enough to stop flea allergy reaction in the treated patient is nitenpyram (Capstar) administered every 24 to 48 hours for 1 month. Because nitenpyram kills only fleas and maggots, any improvement in the patient’s dermatitis would result from the prevention of flea saliva injection. Other adulticides such as fipronil, imidacloprid, and selamectin work well but may take several months to produce significant improvement and require all animals to be treated aggressively. Because of grooming and the limitations of each product, treatments should be applied every 2 to 3 weeks in flea-allergic animals. In heavily infested environments, it may take several weeks to reduce the number of emerging fleas. Owners may perceive this as lack of efficacy, when, in fact, it is caused by the presence of large numbers of fleas in the pupal stage.

A healthcare provider may also suggest using phototherapy, which uses ultraviolet (UV) light to treat psoriasis.

In some cases, contact dermatitis may require you to use a corticosteroid prescription from a healthcare provider.
